Location: The base can be either in Lisbon, Leiria, Ponte de Sor or Caldas da Rainha. This role requires frequent travel (50%) to the company’s various locations in Portugal and overseas and to external partners.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Export Control Manager to ensure the company’s global trade activities comply with all relevant export control laws, regulations, and internal policies. You will oversee licensing, classification, compliance procedures, and training programs, playing a key role in mitigating regulatory and reputational risks while enabling efficient cross-border business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s export control compliance program.
- Classify products, technology, and services under applicable export control regimes (e.g., EAR, ITAR, EU Dual-Use Regulation).
- Manage export licenses and authorizations, ensuring timely applications and renewals.
- Monitor regulatory changes and update internal processes accordingly.
- Provide training and guidance to internal teams on export compliance requirements.
- Coordinate with logistics, procurement, legal, and sales teams to ensure compliant global trade practices.
- Conduct audits, risk assessments, and investigations related to export control.
- Liaise with government authorities on export control matters.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s / Master degree in International Business, Law, Supply Chain Management, or related field
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in export control or trade compliance.
- Experience in international shipping is a plus.
- Experience working with licensing bodies.
- In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g., U.S. EAR/ITAR, PT Military, EU Dual-Use, UK Export Control, local laws).
- Experience with trade compliance tools and screening software.
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Professional certification (e.g., Certified Export Specialist, CUSECO) is a plus.
- Language Requirements: advanced proficiency in English, with proven fluency at the C2 level.
